Join us for refreshments as we celebrate the library’s first anniversary. Help capture a moment in time, a snapshot of Oxford Lane Library’s first year in our new location. Fill out a form with your thoughts and memories of all things Lane! Messages will be placed in the time capsule to be opened in 2041. Forms and other mementos will be accepted until November 28.

David McCullough: History as a Source of Strength

The Lane Libraries and the Michael J. Colligan History Project present a Roesel Lecture with author David McCullough. This master historian will discuss the pleasures and value of our history and the urgent need to keep it alive. A reception and book signing will follow the presentation. Tickets are no longer available for this event, but a live feed will be streamed into several classrooms on the Miami Hamilton campus. All attendees are invited to the book sale and signing following the presentation.

Clark Lane, the Lane Family, and the Abolitionist Movement

On the back of a Currier & Ives print that he owned, Clark Lane outlined his views on the Abolitionist Movement in Antebellum America. Christopher Lane, a member of the extended Lane family, noted expert on antique maps and prints and an Antiques Roadshow appraiser, will offer a presentation on Clark, the Lane Family and the Abolitionist Movement.

Johnny Appleseed’s Westward Journey: In Recognition of the Contributions of the Smith Library of Regional History to the 150th Anniversary of the Lane Libraries

William Kerrigan is a renowned expert on the life and times of John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed. Kerrigan will present John Chapman’s Westward Journey. Co-sponsored by the Michael J. Colligan History Project and the Smith Library of Regional History.

Dr. Curtis Ellison, MUH, and library managers will introduce us to the vision and philanthropy of Clark Lane through the recently completed history of the library as we celebrate 150 years of public service. We’ll share little known facts and display recently unearthed photos that catalog its expansion and innovative vision. Contributors to the history will be recognized.

Visit the Hamilton Lane Library during the German Village Christmas Walk where a number of local history authors will greet the public, sell and autograph their works on the history of the area. Authors include James Schwartz, Brian Smith, Richard Piland, Richard O Jones, Scott Fowler and more.
