Lane Libraries to Phase Reopening; Drive-Thru Service and Book Drops to Reopen May 18

During this time of rapid change, we appreciate your patience as we work to identify the safest way to reopen the library in phases based on the Governor’s Responsible Restart Ohio plan.

The Lane Libraries’ plan is to begin with the reopening of our book drop locations and drive-thru services. We will open our drive-thrus and community book drops, provide telephone reference and begin accepting returns on Monday, May 18. These services will be available 12:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. We are currently implementing measures to bring these services back to the public while maintaining the safety of our patrons and staff. We will remain at this level of service for a period of time before determining the timing of reopening our physical locations in accordance with the state.

Again, we thank you for your patience as we work to figure out the details of our next steps. We’re happy to see that so many of you have embraced new ways of utilizing library services electronically during this time and hope that you will continue to explore all that our digital library has to offer! We will continue to provide updates as they are made available.

In light of the constant change surrounding us during this time, we wanted to touch base with you and give you some updates.

As federal social distancing guidelines have been extended until at least April 30, the Lane Libraries will continue to stay closed until further notice. This will be reevaluated on a regular basis using information from the state and federal governments. Due dates for items currently checked out will continue to be extended and fines will be suspended during this time.

Our library locations are undergoing a professional deep cleaning and disinfection process at this time to ensure the safety of our patrons and staff upon reopening.

We are so happy to see that many of you are taking advantage of our digital resources more than ever before! If you haven’t yet checked out these services, visit and click on eResources to discover all that’s available to you from home. Learn a new instrument from home with ArtistWorks, take online classes to keep up with CEUs through Universal Class, learn a new language using Transparent Languages, or find out more about Lane’s offerings through our very own Webinar Wednesdays series.

You also have access to countless eBooks, audiobooks, songs, videos, and magazines through our website. If you aren’t able to find your library card or don’t currently have one, you can sign up for a temporary digital use card here.

Also, for those of you who have children under the age of 5, you can now sign up to take part in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library! This service mails one book a month to every enrolled child from birth until their fifth birthday. Thanks to the Ohio Governor’s Imagination Library, Butler County United Way, and other local donors who have made this possible for the children of Butler County. Visit to get started.

We miss seeing you at the Lane Libraries, but hope that you will continue to stay safe and healthy, and visit our website often. You can also follow us on Facebook at for regular updates and links to more great resources.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lane Libraries drive-thrus will be open Monday - Friday 12:00 - 7:00 p.m. Phone reference will also be available during this time. Book returns will be open 24 hours a day. The Lane Tech Center, Bookmobile, and Smith History Library will continue to be closed at this time.  More Info
