As defined by its Board of Trustees, the mission of the Lane Public Library (LPL) and its staff members is "to provide and promote library resources to meet the educational, recreational, cultural, civic, and informational needs of the library's service area."

TITLE: Library Assistant
GRADE: 7
REPORTS TO: Smith Library Manager                                                          FLSA: Non-Exempt


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists and instructs patrons in locating and using a broad spectrum of information resources
    and services (print, electronic, referral, etc.) refers to colleagues as needed
  • Performs bibliographic searches, verifies citations, answers reference questions and assists
    with research
  • Assists with oversight, maintenance, and replenishing supplies for PC workstations and basic
    business equipment (copiers, printers, etc.)
  • Performs routine clerical tasks (e.g., routes mail, files, types, enters data, maintains inventory of supplies, etc.)
  • Assists with planning programs, outreach activities, exhibits, displays, and tours; presents programs under direct supervision of manager
  • Performs basic repairs on library materials as assigned
  • Routes, searches for and shelves various library materials
  • Chairs and serves on various teams and committees

REQUIRED ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Operates personal computers
  • Organizes, analyzes, and prioritizes work skillfully and efficiently
  • Communicates effectively
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Works both independently and with appropriate training and supervision
  • Maintains professionalism at all times
  • Able to lift 40 pounds
  • Has knowledge of area history

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma plus some college coursework or equivalent

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Works flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
  • Assists other agencies/departments, as needed

SALARY:
