As
defined by its Board of Trustees, the mission of the Lane Public Library
(LPL) and its staff members is "to provide and promote library
resources to meet the educational, recreational, cultural, civic, and
informational needs of the library's service area."

REPORTS
TO: Branch Manager FLSA:
Non-Exempt
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works
as a substitute for library assistants in all public service departments
as assigned
- Assists
and instructs patrons in locating and using am broad spectrum of information
resources and services (print, electronic, referral, etc.), refers to
colleagues as needed
- Performs
bibliographic searches, verifies citations, answers reference questions
and assists with research
- Assists
with oversight, maintenance, and replenishing supplies for PC workstations
and basic business equipment (copiers, printers, etc.)
- Performs
routine clerical tasks (e.g., records and routes mail, files, types,
enters data, maintains inventory of supplies, etc.)
- Performs
circulation desk routines, registers and maintains patron circulation
records, prepares library cards, checks library materials in and out
- Performs
circulation money procedures, collects fines and fees, balances cash
drawers
- Prepares
reserve holds and transfers items to other locations
- Routes,
searches for, and shelves various library materials
- Chairs
and serves on various teams and committees
REQUIRED
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Operates
personal computers; demonstrates ability to pass keyboarding test
- Organizes,
analyzes, and prioritizes work skillfully and efficiently
- Communicates
effectively
- Maintains
confidentiality
- Works
both independently and with appropriate training and supervision
- Maintains
professionalism at all times
REQUIRED
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- High school
diploma plus some college coursework or equivalent
OTHER
REQUIREMENTS:
- Works
flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
- Assists
other agencies/departments, as needed
SALARY: Part-time,
20 hours per week, $9.90 an hour. Excellent benefits with paid vacation
and paid sick leave after one full year of employment. Schedule includes
morning, afternoon, evening and weekend shifts.
