PART-TIME POSITION OPEN
LIBRARY ASSISTANT, GRADE 7
MAIN BRANCH OF LANE PUBLIC LIBRARIES

As defined by its Board of Trustees, the mission of the Lane Public Library (LPL) and its staff members is "to provide and promote library resources to meet the educational, recreational, cultural, civic, and informational needs of the library's service area."

TITLE: Library Assistant - Children Services
GRADE: 7
REPORTS TO: Head of Childrens                                                                  FLSA: Non-Exempt

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists and instructs patrons in locating and using a broad spectrum of information resources and services (print, electronic, referral, etc.), refers to colleagues as needed
  • Performs bibliographic searches, verifies citations, answers reference questions, and assists with research
  • Assists with planning programs, outreach activities, exhibits, displays, and tours; presents programs under the direct supervision of the department head
  • Assists with oversight, maintenance, and replenishing supplies for PC workstations and basic business equipment (copiers, printers, etc.)
  • Performs routine clerical tasks (e.g., records and routes mail, files, types, enters data, maintains inventory of supplies, etc.)
  • Performs basic repairs on library materials as assigned
  • Prepares teacher collections under the direction of the department head
  • Promotes LPL within the community
  • Chairs or serves on various teams and committees

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Operates personal computers; demonstrates ability to pass keyboarding and filing tests
  • Organizes, analyzes, and prioritizes work skillfully and efficiently
  • Communicates effectively
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Works both independently and with appropriate training and supervision
  • Maintains professionalism at all times

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma plus some college coursework, or equivalent

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Works flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
  • Assists other agencies/departments, as needed


SALARY:
Part-time position, 15 hours per week; $9.97 per hour. Excellent benefits including 15 hours of vacation and 15 hours of paid sick leave after one year.
