FAIRFIELD LANE LIBRARY
As defined
by its Board of Trustees, the mission of the Lane Public Library (LPL)
and its staff members is "to provide and promote library resources
to meet the educational, recreational, cultural, civic, and informational
needs of the library's service area."
TITLE:
Library Assistant - Children's Services, Grade 7
REPORTS
TO: Head of Children's Services
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists
and instructs patrons in locating and using a broad spectrum of information
resources and services (print, electronic, referral, etc.), refers to
colleagues as needed
- Performs
bibliographic searches, verifies citations, answers reference questions,
and assists with research
- Assists
with planning programs, outreach activities, displays, and tours; presents
programs under the direct supervision of the department head
- Assists
with oversight, maintenance, and replenishing supplies for PC workstations
and basic business equipment (copiers, printers, etc.)
- Performs
routine clerical tasks (e.g., records and routes mail, files, types,
enters data, maintains inventory of supplies, etc.)
- Performs
basic repairs on library materials as assigned
- Prepares
teacher collections under the direction of the department head
- Promotes
LPL within the community
- Chairs
or serves on various teams and committees
REQUIRED
ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
- Operates
personal computers; demonstrates ability to pass keyboarding and filing
tests
- Organizes,
analyzes, and prioritizes work skillfully and efficiently
- Communicates
effectively
- Maintains
confidentiality
- Works
both independently and with appropriate training and supervision
- Maintains
professionalism at all times
REQUIRED
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- High School
diploma plus college and/or equivalent experience
OTHER
REQUIREMENTS:
- Works
flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
- Assists
other agencies / departments, as needed
SALARY:
Full-time, 37.5 hours per week; $19,440.00 annually. Excellent benefits
including health, dental, vision, short-term disability, and life insurance.
Two weeks paid vacation after one year and paid sick leave. (Schedules have
morning, evening, afternoon and weekend hours.)
