PATRON BEHAVIOR POLICY


Lane Public Library invites you to enjoy your library and to come often.  The library is committed to providing a pleasant, secure and supportive environment for all of its patrons and staff.  To achieve this goal, the following Standards of Behavior have been established: 

Any activity or behavior that hinders the use of the library, is disruptive, or jeopardizes the safety of patrons or employees, inside or outside, is prohibited.  Disruptive behavior may include, but not be limited to:

  • Running and rowdiness
  • Shouting, talking, or making noise loud enough to disturb others
  • Fighting
  • Possession of weapons or of objects which might be used as weapons (e.g., sharp objects, coat hangers, metal files, or pins)
  • Physical or verbal harassment or abuse directed toward patrons or staff
  • Profane and obscene language or images directed toward patrons or staff
  • Sexual activity
  • Cell phones and audio-visual equipment used in a way that disturbs others
  • Bathing, shaving, and washing clothes in restrooms
  • Prolonged sleeping (in excess of 30 minutes) or loud snoring
  • Theft, damage, misuse, or defacement of library materials, equipment, or facilities is not permitted.

The library is not responsible for lost or stolen articles.  Please do not leave valuable or personal belongings unattended.

Food and drink are not permitted in public areas of the library unless otherwise designated. 
The use of tobacco, alcohol, and illegal substances is prohibited inside all library buildings. 

Shoes and shirts are required. 

Soliciting, panhandling, and political campaigning are not permitted on library property.  All materials to be posted or distributed must be approved by the library. 

Service animals for people with disabilities are welcome.  No other animals are permitted inside the library building.  Pets left unattended outside the library building are the responsibility of the owner. 

Bicycles must be left outside the library building.  Skateboards, roller skates, scooters and in-line skates must not be worn or used inside the library building. 

No illegal activity or behavior is permitted.

FAILURE TO ADHERE TO THIS POLICY COULD RESULT IN ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS:

  • REQUEST TO LEAVE THE LIBRARY
  • LOSS OF LIBRARY PRIVILEGES
  • ARREST
